Headed to TNNA, Booth 255

Well the last goodies are drying, or getting finished,  last edits to patterns,  price lists,  and oh, yes, packing some clothes, then off we go in the morning  to fly all the way over to Ohio.  I grew up in Ohio,  so this is always a little bit of a homecoming trip for me.

Last year we drove up to Akron and Cleveland  to revisit some of those old familiar spots.  This year  we will be introducing two absolutely new favorite colors in honor of my Grandmother,  Marie Sholes Stavely.    The color names are Marie’s Purple and Marie’s Rose.  There is a story,  and the reader’s digest version  is  “that afghan” that my grandmother knit for me when I was 12,  all bobbles,  in three shades of rose and purple.  I have it and use it to this day.

Marie was born in 1895, in Sterling, Kansas,  and achieved a Master’s Degree in Voice  from Northwestern University in Chicago.  Although her BS was in Chemistry,  her dad would only agree to  the Northwestern idea if she agreed to take a degree in music.  So,  off she went,  where she met my Grandfather  who has his own very interesting story.  That is for another post.

Photos  are of the newest colors,  shown in Bulky,  palette,  is shown in worsted weight.

See you soon,  Blessings,  Catherine

The Hen House, Spring, Texas

Red Barn Yarn just returned from Spring, Texas,   where we had lots of fun and the privilege of sharing our newest ideas for TNNA  with the ladies of the “Block of the Month”  group.  We had a great time,  shared new designs, ideas, yarn bases and colorways that are now re-packed and headed to Columbus.

Stephanie and Ralph selected our bulky yarn for their  tried and true Block of the Month Program.  The ladies meet monthly for a pattern overview,  show and tell,  drawings,  and receive their  yarn for the new month.

The program is a great opportunity to learn new stitches,  try new yarn,  and have a morning away, just for knitting.

Here we go,  my first blog,  not done by those with more tech saavy than me.  Time to join the crowd  and communicate in the way of the day.  Red Barn Yarn is happy to announce  a new stockist, StevenBe,  in Minneapolis, MN.   We just shipped off a beautiful selection of llama sparkle about a week ago, in the  most favorite colors that we do.  Mauve Mist,  Terra,  and Pine Forest,  to name a few.  Use your imagination,  or run by the shop to touch and feel.  We included a pattern for a fun to knit shawl that will take you anywhere. Dress it  up,  down,  add beads, fringe and you have a versatile wardrobe piece.

Steven, thank you for sharing our yarn in your shop,  we look forward to working with you.  See you all at TNNA in just a few short days.

New colors for Fall!

Mauve Mist  is a lovely,  dusty mauve,  already being well received by Yarn Lady in Laguna Hills CA  as Nancy had the opportunity to show it last week.  They loved it!

Plum Rosa is a deep burgundy,  the color that some of the liquid amber trees turn in the fall.  This color,  coral bells,  and liquid amber will be featured in the Fall issue of Love of Knitting,  an original design, by me of all people!  LOK has a 6 mo exclusive use of the pattern,  after that it is yours to sell.  Of course the yarn can be sold at any time.  The garment requires 4 skeins of yarn,  2 plum rosa,   1 coral bells and 1 liquid amber.  The design would make for a great 3-4 week class for your stores.  You may order copies of the magazine by contacting Fons and Porter,  in Winterset, Iowa.

Storm Lake Iowa knits up as a wonderful neutral.  The better idea of the color is the garment,  Tuxedo Vest,  as shown on the website.  On my  monitor the shot of the skein itself appears more blue than it actually is.  I will ask if Shirley can edit the color for posting on the website.
